PHARMACOLOGY OBJECTIVES 

1. Describe pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, classification and the principles of drug administration.

COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING OBJECTIVES

General Objective:

                  By the end of the course students should acquire knowledge and develop proficiency in caring for patients in the community setting.

Specific Objective:

By the end of the course students are able to

1. Recall the components of community health nursing.

2. Reviews the administrative set up of PHC and function as a member of health team while rendering health care services.

3. Participates in various health programmes.

4. Practices principles of home visit.

5. Identifies the need, assesses the problem in the community.

6. Plans care on short term and ling term basis for individuals, family and community.

8. Treat the minor ailments.

9. Observe environmental sanitation and personal hygiene.

10. Identifies the socio-economic and nutritional status of the family.

11. Identifies cases of communicable diseases, STD, leprosy, and renders referral services and follow up care.

12. Describe about community welfare services which can be helpful to the individuals and families.

13. Recording the patient’s information correctly.

14. Plans family folders in alphabetical order.

15. Evaluate the work done by her in the community and make suggestion for better work.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) Objectives

          The students will be posted in the surgical intensive care unit for a period of two weeks.

General objective:

By the end of the posting students will gain knowledge and skills in caring for clients with surgical condition requiring intensive care and will also gain skills in handling the equipment used in the unit.

Specific objectives:

By the end of their posting students will:

1. Learn the physical setup of the surgical ICU.

2. Gain knowledge and skills in the use of equipment such as ventilators, pulse oxymeters, diginfuser, defibrillators, cardiac monitors, suction apparatus and other intensive care equipment used in the ICU.

3. Gain skills in the insertion of various catheters such as – Foleys catheter, nasogastric tubes, IV cannulas, gastrostomy feeding,
jejunostomy feeding, gastric lavage, colostomy care, tracheostomy care, surgical wound dressings etc.
  

4. Provide individualized holistic care to the patient assigned to them using the nursing process.

5. Gain skills in the assisting during emergency and diagnostic or therapeutic procedures such as cardiopoulmonary resuscitation, intubation’s tracheostomy, thoracentesis, abdominal paracentesis, lumbar puncture etc.

6. Learn all the specific protocols followed in case of road traffic accidents, emergency surgeries, and various other major and minor surgeries etc.

7. Complete expected requirements such as care plans, case studies and other procedures and present one patient for clinical presentation.

8. Learn and administer medications and IV fluids as per doctor’s orders.

9. Maintain kardex and nurses notes for each patient and provide specific and relevant health education to each patient.

10. Provide complete physical, spiritual, emotional, and promote the health status of the patient and the family members.

Neuro Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Objectives

Neuro Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

          The students will be posted in the NICU for a period of time.

General objective :

     By the end of the posting students will gain in-depth knowledge and skills in caring for clients with various neurological disorders, head injuries, neuromuscular disorders, degenerative neurological disorders, seizure disorders and neurosurgical disorders requiring intensive care and will also gain skills in handling the equipment used in the unit.

Specific objectives :

By the end of their posting students will:

1. Learn the physical setup of the NICU.

2. Provide individualized holistic care to the patient assigned to them using the nursing process.

3. Gain knowledge and skills in the use of equipment such as ventilators, pulse oxymeters, diginfuser, defibrillators, cardiac monitors, suction.

4. Learn about the neurological assessment of patients using the glass-cow coma scale, monitor intracranial pressure, and the specific investigations done for these patients such as EEG, EMG, EVP, etc..

5. Gain skills in the management of patients with various neurological disorders and do surgical wound dressings etc.

6. Gain knowledge and skills providing care to patients with different levels of consciousness.

7. Learn the specific protocols followed in case of patients with head injuries, coma, vertebral disorders, hydrocephalous etc.
8. Complete expected requirements such as care plans, case studies and other procedures and present one patient for clinical presentation.

9. Learn and administer medications and IV fluids as per doctor’s orders.

10. Maintain kardex and nurses notes for each patient and provide specific and relevant health education to each patient.

11. Provide complete physical, spiritual, emotional, and promote the health status of the patient and the family members.

7. Complete expected requirements such as care plans, case studies and other procedures and present one patient for clinical presentation.

8. Learn and administer medications and IV fluids as per doctors’ orders.

9. Maintain kardex and nurses notes for each patient and provide specific and relevant health education to each patient.

10. Provide complete physical, spiritual, emotional, and promote the health status of the patient and the family members.
