( Potassium Supplement )
Potassium Chloride Oral Solution U.S.P
Composition :
Each 15ml contains
Potassium Chloride I.P ......... 1.5 g
( Corresponding to 20 milliequivalents of elemental potassium )
In a flavoured sugarless base ......... q.s.
Dosage :
Adults : The usual daily dosage is 1 tablespoon full ( 15ml ) diluted 2 to 4 times daily after meals, supplying 3 to 6 g or 40 to 80 milliequivalents.
Children : Dosage should be adjusted according to the age of the child or as directed by the physician.
Indications :
- Prevention and Treatment of hypokalemia due to diuretic or corticosteroid therapy.
- Cardiac arrhythmias because of Digitalis intoxication.
- Hyper-aldosteronism.
Contraindications:
- Severe renal impairment with oliguria or azotomia.
- Untreated addisons disease.
- Acute dehydration.
- Hyperkalemia of any etiology.
Cautions :
- To be taken strictly according to the physicians treatment.
- Each dose diluted in half glass of water.
- In case of renal impairment associated with spiranolactone therapy, Monitoring of serum potassium level is necessary.
- Protect from heat and sunlight.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
