Characterstics of Blood
1.Viscous :
Thickness
of blood resistant to flow. Due to presence in cells and plasma proteins
contributes to blood pressure.
2.PH :
Blood is
slightly alkaline. The PH range of blood is 7.35 to 7.45.
3.Colour :
The
oxygen content of blood is bright red. The CO2 content of blood is dark red in
colour.
Arterial
blood has high O2 Content and is bright red in colour.
Venous
blood has less O2 content and is Dark red in colour.
4.Volume :
- It makes up about 7% of body weight ( 5.6 Lit in 70 Kg )
- Normal Volume : 4 – 6 lit ( 38 -48% in Cells )
( 52 – 62% in Plasma )
- The blood volume in adult male is : 5 – 6 lit ( 1.5 gal )
- The normal blood volume in adult female : 4 – 5 lit ( 1.2 gal )
