NICORANDIL

- It has a dual mode of acton being a selective ATP dependent potassium channel opener and a nitric oxide donor.
- Long term management of coronary heart disease
- ADULTS : 10-20 mg twice day
- CHILDREN : Not recommended.
- Hypersensitivity
- Patients with cardiogenic shock
- left ventricular failure with low filling pressure and in hypotension.
- Patients on Nicorandil theraypy should not drive or operate machinery.
- depleted blood volume
- low systolic blood pressure
- acute pulmonary oedema or Acutue Myocardial infarctions
- Acute left ventricular failure and low filling pressure.
- Paediatric : Not recommended.
- Pregnancy and Lactaion :Should not be used as there is no experience in humans.
- Elderly : No special problem.
SIDE EFFECTS :
- Headache.
- Cutaneous vasodilation with flushing.
- Nausea.
- Vomiting.
- Dizziness.
- Feeling of weakness.
DRUG INTERACTIONS :
No pharmacological or pharmacokinetic interactons have been observed with
- Beta-blockers
- Digoxin
- Rifampicin
- Cimetidine
- Frusemide
